- "A letter from Riga" is a video about the city of Riga in preparation for its 800th anniversary in 2001. The content is excellent - a little of Riga`s history, Latvian traditions, the best views and sights of the city, clips from interviews with the President of Latvia, Dr. Vaira Vike-Freiberga, and the mayor of Riga. The city is getting ready for its 800th anniversary celebration this summer and this video will help convince an unsure traveler to visit Latvia.
The film is made in Riga by the Latvian youth center JUMC, and the overall quality of picture is good, although a few shots appear to be taken in late afternoon. The narration is read at a rather quick pace and it could be a little difficult to understand the Latvian accent at first. Duration: 23 minutes. So far this is the best English language Riga travel video we have come across, the main reason being that its authors live in Riga and know their city and culture.
