- The artist has tried to combine the ancient symbols of Gotland cult stones with her own personal style to form a unique design. Vikings are known to have been an ancient tribe of fighters and travelers, and were the first to reach America, Greenland and Ireland. They lived mainly in Gotland. Nowadays Visby, the capital of Gotland, still retains its unique features – tiny houses, narrow streets and lovely roses still flowering in December. This jewelry symbolizes a labyrinth and is related to the special ritual performed by Vikings before going sailing. They went through this labyrinth, made of stones and believed that it would protect them from all their troubles at sea as well as helping them win battles. Many of these labyrinths are still preserved nowadays. The ring symbolizes Viking ships. Its motif has been taken from designs found on Viking cloth.
