- Alberts Mednis has been playing the three-row accordion since childhood and is still performing at weddings and other celebrations nowadays at the age of 72. He is an example of an authentic Latvian folk musician that is becoming increasingly rare. The three-row accordion or squeeze-box was during time increasingly outrivaled by the modern accordion, but its good sonority makes it certainly worth listening to.
The melodies of the first half of this recording were popular in the late 19th century, but the second half of this recording includes melodies which were widely played between the two world wars. Most of them are still popular among Latvians.
