Richard Strauss treated his Don Quixote as a complex symphonic poem, one of his 14 symphonic works. The piece is subtitled "Fantastic Variations on a Theme of Knightly Character", for large orchestra.
This CD is dedicated to te M. Rostropovich Cello festival which is organized by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra in August, 2001.
