- Imants Kalnins, Imants Ziedonis, Riga Chamber Choir Ave Sol, Conductor Imants Kokars. Elga Brahmane, soprano, Janis Sprogis, tenor, Latvian State Symphony Orchestra
Ziedonis, Kalnins, Kokars - three very distinctive personalities, all bearing the name Imants. Three unique talents, each great in his own domain. Often such strong personalities cannot exist side by side, for the energy radiated by each individual is too powerful to allow contact. But the reverse is also possible when the union of such powerful individuals leads to the creation of something magnificent a great moment for the arts and a feast for the soul. Thirty years have passed since these three great personalities met to create this recording of the oratorio "The Poet and the Mermaid" (1973). It was a special moment for all of them, for the three Imants, for their audience and for those who performed the work. The emotions generated by this moving experience are still felt today. At this point in time, in the Latvian National Song Festival year of 2003, we not only remember the creation of the oratorio thirty years ago but also celebrate the 70th anniversary of Imants Ziedonis. These are ample reasons to return to this work, to draw inspiration from the past, to celebrate the present and look towards the future. 1. Bells 2. From There 3. No Such Joy 4. The Call 5.
