This CD contains a selection of songs from the 10th volume of the Anthology of Latvian Choral Music: folk song arrangements composed 1991-2000. Stylistically they provide a summary of the many ways Latvian composers have approached folklore material during the 20th century and consolidate the principles established during the course of these creative quests. Folk song texts have come to be perceived as a serious source of wisdom that can still provide inspiration. In variations or arrangements the melodic structure of folk songs is treated with care and consideration. And the fundamentally diatonic nature of folklore material is retained, even when accompanied by radical compositional techniques and complex textures.
