The orchestral sound of the bagpipe and drum group Auļi is mighty in itself, but the arrangements created by Kārlis Auzāns for their ten year anniversary provides it with new power. Wild pagan instruments meet majestic cellos, which, in this combination, sound like real rock’n roll tools. With hymnic wind instruments drawing the front line in this forest of noise and contemplative guitar accents, the sound has become even more multi-layered, while still preserving the dominance of bagpipes and drums. Without a doubt, this is still the sound of Auļi. A group which could only originate in Latvia.
