- V. Vīķe-Freiberga comments on this recording:
„Every person has a few favorite songs, some maybe learned in childhood, others associated with a particular occasion or person, or songs that hold special meaning for us because of the emotions that they evoke. In days gone by people made a point of deliberately accumulating a personal “chestful” or “basketful” of “their” own special folk songs. I agree with this position that everyone should have such a personal repertoire.”
Through her scientific research and publications about Latvian folk songs Prof. Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga has helped both Latvians and those of other cultures to better understand Latvian traditional culture and its values.
