- The Traditions of Latvian baking.
This book is the first detailed narrative to introduce Latvia's complex and long-preserved baking traditions. It gives the reader an unique opportunity to learn about the wonderful paculiarities of baking in the historic regions of Latvia. The seriousness and uniqueness of the past is made accessible by the well chosen form of the narrative - a conversation with a child during a journey from one region to another - as well as by its chosen subjects, who in most cases are women who bear the names typical of each particular region, with their own unique characters and linguistic traits; women who are the bakers of traditional bread, transmitting their skills to future generations. The local character is amphased by a wealth of place names, songs (sheet music is included), recipes, drawings and photographs, all of which help to illustrate the text. This book makes a geat gift for friends, relatives and colleagues with interest in Latvian culture and/or food.
