- With signs and symbols we convey meaning to others. But signs, designs, and symbols also lead a life of their own. Theirs is an encoded language, and we need the key to understand it. In this book Daina Kraukle of the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum introduces the reader to traditional Latvian designs and explains the meanings behind many of them, for example Jumis, Maras liklocis, ugunskrusts, zalktis, and Austras koks. She also motivates the reader to form his/her own opinions about the designs. Artwork by Vita LÄ“nerte.
